(from Cyprus). Not indigenous to Palestine. Juniper may be meant (Isa. 44:14¹⁴He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it. (Isaiah 44:14)).

Cypress

A species of oak which preserves its fragrance: it will not easily rot, nor is it eaten by worms (Isa. 44:14¹⁴He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.
