Cloud of Glory.

First manifestation of. Ex. 13:20, 21²⁰And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness. ²¹And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: (Exodus 13:20‑21).

CALLED

The cloud. Ex. 34:5⁵And the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. (Exodus 34:5).

Pillar of cloud and pillar of lire. Ex. 13:22²²He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people. (Exodus 13:22).

Cloudy pillar. Ex. 33:9, 10⁹And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses. ¹⁰And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door. (Exodus 33:9‑10).

Cloud of the Lord. Num. 10:34³⁴And the cloud of the Lord was upon them by day, when they went out of the camp. (Numbers 10:34).

TI presence of God. Ex. 33:14, 15¹⁴And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. ¹⁵And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. (Exodus 33:14‑15).

God's glory manifested in. Ex. 16:10¹⁰And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud. (Exodus 16:10). Ex. 40:35³⁵And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. (Exodus 40:35).

God came down in. Ex. 34:5⁵And the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. (Exodus 34:5). Nuns. 11:25.

God spoke from. Ex. 24:16¹⁶And the glory of the Lord abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. (Exodus 24:16). Psa, 99:7.

WAS DESIGNED TO

Regulate the movements of Israel. Ex. 40:36, 37³⁶And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys: ³⁷But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up. (Exodus 40:36‑37). Num. 9:17-25.

Guide Israel. Ex. 13:21²¹And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: (Exodus 13:21). Neh. 9:19¹⁹Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to show them light, and the way wherein they should go. (Nehemiah 9:19).

Show light to Israel. Psa. 78:14¹⁴In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire. (Psalm 78:14). Psa. 105:39³⁹He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night. (Psalm 105:39).

Defend Israel. Ex. 14:19¹⁹And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: (Exodus 14:19). Psa, 105:39.

Cover the tabernacle. Ex. 40:34³⁴Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. (Exodus 40:34). Num. 9:15¹⁵And on the day that the tabernacle was reared up the cloud covered the tabernacle, namely, the tent of the testimony: and at even there was upon the tabernacle as it were the appearance of fire, until the morning. (Numbers 9:15).

Was dark to the enemies of Israel. Ex. 14:20²⁰And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night. (Exodus 14:20).

Was the Shekinah over the mercy-seat. Lev. 16:2²And the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat. (Leviticus 16:2).

Continued during the journeyings of Israel. Ex. 13:22²²He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people. (Exodus 13:22). Ex. 40:38³⁸For the cloud of the Lord was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys. (Exodus 40:38).

Manifested in the temple of Solomon. 1 Kin. 8:10, 11. 2 Chr. 5:13¹³It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord; (2 Chronicles 5:13). Ezek. 10:4⁴Then the glory of the Lord went up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the Lord's glory. (Ezekiel 10:4).

SPECIAL APPEARANCE OF

At the murmuring for bread. Ex. 16:10¹⁰And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud. (Exodus 16:10).

At giving of the law. Ex. 19:9,16⁹And the Lord said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the Lord. (Exodus 19:9)
¹⁶And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. (Exodus 19:16). Ex. 24:16-18¹⁶And the glory of the Lord abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. ¹⁷And the sight of the glory of the Lord was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel. ¹⁸And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights. (Exodus 24:16‑18).

At sedition of Aaron and Miriam. Num. 12:5⁵And the Lord came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth. (Numbers 12:5).

At the murmuring of Israel on report of the spies. Num. 14:10¹⁰But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the Lord appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel. (Numbers 14:10).

At the rebellion of Korah, &c. Num. 16:19¹⁹And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the Lord appeared unto all the congregation. (Numbers 16:19).

At the murmuring of Israel on account of Korah's death. Num. 16:42⁴²And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the Lord appeared. (Numbers 16:42).

At Christ's transfiguration. Mat. 17:5.

At Christ's ascension. Acts 1:9⁹And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. (Acts 1:9).

Our Lord shall make His second appearance in. Luke 21:27²⁷And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. (Luke 21:27). Acts 1:11¹¹Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. (Acts 1:11).

ILLUSTRATIVE OF

The glory of Christ. Rev. 10:1¹And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: (Revelation 10:1).

The protection of the church. Isa. 4:5⁵And the Lord will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence. (Isaiah 4:5).
