A FEW months since I was reading a narrative under the above heading, sent me by a Christian friend. God made that narrative a blessing to my soul. My experience was almost a repetition of that of the poor man of whom I read. I was at that time laid on a bed of sickness. The Holy Spirit had previously shown me that I was a poor, lost sinner, drifting slowly but surely to hell. God, in His great mercy, brought light to my soul by this passage of scripture, John 3:1616For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16), “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life,” mentioned in the narrative. I was enabled to take God at His word, and to believe that I also was included in the “whosoever.” I believed the record God gave of His Son, and, having done so, found peace in knowing my sins were forgiven.
Dear reader, have you found that peace? If not, let me entreat you to seek it now. Remember you are at God’s mercy. You are depending upon Him for the very next breath you will take. Although God is a merciful and a loving God, remember that He is also a just God. Do you think He has sent His beloved Son into this world to be rejected by us, and treated with contempt? Do you ever seriously think Who it is you reject? Need anyone wonder that the alternative is heaven or hell for eternity? A. K.
