John 4:13‑14

“Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drink, eth of this water shall thirst again: but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him well of water springing up into everlasting life” ―John 4:13,1413Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. (John 4:13‑14).
WHAT Jesus said of the water of Jacob’s well is true of everything that earth can offer. There is nothing in this scene that can effectually quench the thirst of a human soul. Man is made for Eternity, and the things of Time can never satisfy. Augustine spoke truly when he cried, “O God, Thou hast made us for Thyself, and our souls can never find rest until they rest in Thee.” But he who drinks the living water of the gospel finds that which quenches his thirst forever. Christ fully satisfies the heart that learns to confide in Him. The word received in the power of the Holy Spirit produces the new birth, thus giving everlasting life. This is the present possession of all who put their trust in the Lord Jesus.
“I heard the voice of Jesus say,
‘Behold, I freely give
The living water; thirsty one,
Stoop down, and drink and live.’
I came to Jesus, and I drank
Of that life-giving stream,
My thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
And now I live in Him.”
