Question: The Qur'an teaches that Jesus Christ was not crucified or killed: "They killed Him not, nor crucified Him, but so it was made 16 appear to them... for of a surety they killed Him not" (surah 4:157). Why, then, do Christians make so much of the crucifixion of Jesus?
Answer: The Bible states clearly and emphatically, "Christ died for our sins... and... was buried" (1 Cor. 15:3,4). "Christ also suffered for us... who His own self bore our sins in His own body on the tree" (1 Peter 2:21,24). "Christ also has once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God" (1 Peter 3:18). After His resurrection, He said to His disciple Thomas: "Reach here your finger and behold My hands; and reach here your hand, and thrust it into my side" (John 20:27; Luke 24:39).
