Awesome in our estimation are the extremes of life-- BIRTH and DEATH--which most will agree are ruled over by the hand of One superior to man.
As we view a newborn baby, fresh from its mother’s womb, and count fingers and toes as I did with one of my sons, aren’t we duly impressed with the wonder of it all? Though science has invented various processes to monitor a child’s growth in the womb, yet the Scriptures still declare, “As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit [wind], nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.” (Eccl. 11:5)
Likewise, at the other extreme, when in the presence of death or its approach, we feel our helplessness to alter its course or effect, as if in the grasp of an undefeatable foe. “There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death.” (Eccl. 8:8).
