Paul calls Timothy “my own son in the faith” because Timothy had learned to trust Jesus through Paul. He tells Timothy to stay in the city of Ephesus and make sure that no other doctrine was taught except the truth he had learned from Paul.
Charity is God’s love that flows into you and then goes out to other people when you are saved and your faith in God is real. The glorious gospel that was given to Paul to preach is: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. You should respond to this good news and believe on the Lord Jesus to receive everlasting life.
The gospel is “the glorious gospel of the blessed God” (verse 11). Paul was profoundly grateful that God through Christ Jesus had come into the world to save sinners such as himself. He was the object of God’s grace, mercy and long-suffering. He and others were believing on the Savior and receiving eternal life. His heart breaks forth into words of praise for God, the King eternal. God is the supreme King of all ages. He is unchanging in perfection, and unlike others, His ruling over men and angels is without corruption or injustice. As God, He is invisible, but in Christ Jesus all men will see Him rule in majesty and human glory. So in a burst of praise and worship to the one and only God, he exclaims, “[To Him] be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”
The Christian life requires faithfulness to God and a good conscience so we will not live in a way that goes against the truth that Paul and Timothy taught.
