Elect dispersed remnant of Jewish Christians suffering needed trials from God (ch. 1), from unrighteous ones (eh. 2), for righteousness (ch, 3), from Satan (ch. 5), during their sojourn between Christ’s sufferings and His appearing in glory. It is God’s government in favor of His own, who are “born again,” “redeemed” and “kept” for heavenly glory. Peter shows that Christ is the “Corner Stone” and all believers are “living stones” and “priests” (2:4-6). He exhorts servants, wives, husbands and all. “In the days of Noah” the Spirit of Christ by Noah preached, but the souls then “disobedient” are reserved for judgment (3:19, 20; 4:6). Practical obedience to God’s will at all cost of suffering to the flesh was the mind of Christ and our example (4:1, 2 with 2:19; 3:17; Phil. 2:5-8⁵Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: ⁶Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: ⁷But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: ⁸And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
