When we are saved, we receive a new life that does not want to do the bad things listed in verse 1. A newborn baby wants to have milk and it will begin to grow. A young Christian has a new life that wants food. The Word of God is the food that makes a Christian grow spiritually strong. The Lord Jesus is the living stone, our foundation, our strength. If you believe Jesus, you won’t be confused in your spiritual life. With your spiritual life, you are a holy priest and you give spiritual worship to the Lord Jesus. You are also a royal priest, which means you want to serve the Lord Jesus. Be honest even when unbelievers speak badly about you. If they are saved later in life, they will remember that you were honest with them and they will give glory to God because of you. Submit means to be obedient to the government. Always do what pleases God. Honor all men and especially love brothers and sisters in Christ. Fear God. Give honor to the king, president or prime minister. We also need to obey and respect our teachers or our boss, even when they are dishonest or not fair. God gives them authority over us. You might suffer wrongfully, but that is okay when you know you are obedient to God. If you suffer for doing bad, you deserve it. If you suffer for doing good things, you will understand a little more how Jesus felt when He suffered for your sin. That will be acceptable with God. When Jesus was mistreated, He did not say bad words. He just trusted God through the difficult time. Jesus was willing to suffer for your sin so you could be righteous.
