 The only relation revealed as to the believer is subjection without one word here or anywhere else in the N. T. for exercising authority in the present evil age. The grace of Christ is the pattern for every Christian; and "for the Lord's sake" does not import His relation to the human creation, though He is indeed Lord of all, but His appeal to the saints themselves, that they obey Him in submission to the powers of the world. The best MSS. do not read "therefore." The connection with the foregoing is quite indirect. The verb is not only reflexive, but aorist; and so the meaning is, Be ye those who once for all submitted yourselves.
